Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

THE APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; He shall come in glory to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

THE HAIL MARY

Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

THE GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

THE FATIMA PRAYER

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.

PRAYER FOR ETERNAL REST

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

FIRST GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE RESURRECTION

(Our Father …)

  1. Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build Solomon’s temple, how will you raise it in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. As the day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James and Salome, came to the tomb to embalm the body but found the tomb empty. Behold, an Angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, and drawing near rolled back the stone. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. The Angel said, "Do not be afraid! You seek Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He has been raised and is not here." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary Magdalene was distraught, "What have they done to my Lord, tell me that I might do him homage?". She turned around and saw Jesus there, he said to her, "Mary!" Ecstatic at seeing Jesus alive she rushed back to tell the Apostles the good news as Jesus had commanded. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Now two disciples were on the road to Emmaus. While they were conversing and debating, Jesus drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. While they were at table, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. The two disciples rushed back to Jerusalem to tell the good news to the Apostles. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. One morning on Lake Tiberias, some disciples of Jesus were returning with empty nets, when a stranger commanded them, "Let your net down on the right side of your boat, and you will catch fish."  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. They did, and the net was so full of fish that they could not drag it up into the boat. Jesus' favorite disciple told Peter, "It's the Lord!" (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Jesus took some bread in his hands and said, "Come and eat!". This was the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after He was raised from the dead. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Reflection: By rising from the dead, Jesus conquered death and gave us the promise of Eternal Life. May we strive to earn this by being his true disciples. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ... Glory be … Oh my Jesus ... Eternal Rest ...)

SECOND GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD INTO HEAVEN

(Our Father …)

  1. The disciples were gathered in prayer with Mother Mary behind closed doors, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me so also I send you. Go out into the world and make followers of all men". (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. "Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of time". (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Thomas Didymus, one of the twelve apostles, was not with them and he did not believe. A week later when the disciples were together, Jesus came and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my wounds." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen me, you believed; Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet believe". (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Then Jesus led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Jesus told his disciples, "If you love me, you would indeed rejoice that I am going to the Father."  Then he was taken up to Heaven in a cloud. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. As they were looking on, two men dressed in white garments stood beside them and said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into Heaven, will return in the same way on the Last Day." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Reflection: Before the Ascension, Christ was to be found on earth, always in one place. Now we can find him anywhere, we just have to take the time and make the effort. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ... Glory be … Oh my Jesus ... Eternal Rest ...)

THIRD GLORIOUS MYSTERY: DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT UPON THE APOSTLES

(Our Father …)

  1. When the time for Pentecost had come the Apostles were gathered together persevering in prayer with Mary, the mother of Jesus. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Suddenly there came a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Then there appeared to them Tongues of Fire, which came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under Heaven. In amazement they asked, "Are not all these people, who are speaking, Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language?"  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. In awe they asked Peter and the other Apostles, "What are we to do, my brothers?" (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Peter stood up, and proclaimed to them, "This is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘It will come to pass in the last days that I will pour out a portion of my Spirit upon all flesh.'"  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. "God raised Jesus from the dead; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God, he received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father and poured it forth, as you both can see and hear." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Those present accepted his message and were baptized. About three thousand persons were added to the Church that day. On the Feast of Pentecost, we celebrate the Holy Spirit who came to remain with the Church forever, permanently and unfailingly. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Reflection: The Holy Spirit was bestowed onto me at confirmation. Have I squandered this great gift? Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful; and kindle in us the fire of Thy love. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ... Glory be … Oh my Jesus ... Eternal Rest ...)

FOURTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY INTO HEAVEN

(Our Father …)

  1. After the Apostles dispersed, the Blessed Virgin Mary went to live with John, the beloved disciple. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary lived many years on earth after the death of Christ.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary was a source of guidance, comfort, consolation and strength to the Apostles and the early Church.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Just as Mary had nourished the Infant Jesus, so too she nourished spiritually the infant Church.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. When Mary died, her body was wholly overcome in a rapture of divine love. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary’s body as well as her soul were taken up into Heaven.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. The Apostles went to the tomb and found only fragrant lilies. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Jesus would not permit the sinless body of his Mother to decay in the grave. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Corruption of the body is an effect of original sin from which Mary is totally exempted by her Immaculate Conception.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1.  Reflection: In Mother Mary, we have a powerful advocate to plead our cause. Do I hesitate to call upon our heavenly Mother in my hour of need? Do I remember to thank her for all the graces and blessings bestowed upon me? (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ... Glory be … Oh my Jesus ... Eternal Rest ...)

FIFTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: CORONATION OF OUR LADY IN HEAVEN

(Our Father …)

  1. A great sign appeared in Heaven; a woman clothed with the Sun, the Moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve Stars. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. As Mary enters Heaven, the entire court of Heaven greets her with joy. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. More than we can ever know the hearts of Jesus and Mary overflow with joy at this reunion. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary is crowned by her divine Son as Queen of Heaven and Earth.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary …)

  1. Only in Heaven will we know the great majesty of that Coronation, and the joy it gave to the Angels and Saints. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Even the Angels hail Mary as their Queen.  (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Mary shares so fully in the glory of Christ because she shared so fully in His suffering. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ...)

  1. Reflection: Mother Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth cure this hurting humanity and heal our planet of this terrible affliction. With your grace and blessings, may we return to Christ's ways of love, caring and forgiveness. (Hail Mary ... Holy Mary ... Glory be … Oh my Jesus ... Eternal Rest ...)

    Prayers following the Rosary

    Salve, Regina. Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, O Mother of Mercy,

Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.

    To thee do we cry,

    poor banished children of Eve.

To thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.

    Turn then, most gracious advocate,

thine eyes of mercy toward us,

    and after this exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,

    Jesus.

    Most clement, O loving,

    O sweet Virgin Mary.

    V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

    R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

    The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

    Prayer to St Joseph

To you, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction, and having implored the help of your most Holy Spouse, we now, with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg you to take us under your protection. Through that sacred bond of charity which united you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that Fatherly love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you to look graciously upon the beloved inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by his blood, and to aid us in our necessities with your power and strength. Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And just as you once saved the Child Jesus from mortal danger, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Shield us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and strengthened by your help, we may be able to live a virtuous life, die a happy death, and obtain everlasting bliss in heaven. Amen.

Prayer to St Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in this day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Prayer from Pope Francis to our most Blessed Mother Mary for protection from Coronavirus

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.

At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain,

    with steadfast faith.

You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that,

as you did at Cana of Galilee,

joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform ourselves to the Father’s will

and to do what Jesus tells us:

He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us,

through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.

We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God.

Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Immaculate Mary, hymn by Rev. Jeremiah William Cummings

    1 Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing;

You reign now in splendor with Jesus, our King.

    Refrain:

    Ave, ave, ave, María!

    Ave, ave, María!

    2 In heaven the blessed your glory proclaim;

On earth we, your children, invoke your sweet name. [Refrain]

    3 We pray for the Church, our true mother on earth;

And beg you to watch o'er the land of our birth. [Refrain]
